Hello customers and friends,

I was working late last night and my over-used, well-loved Powerbook G4 started its over-heating-about-to-shut-down trick. This has been my sidekick for over 5 years. It’s spent its life helping keep a roof over our heads, and it has been a trooper, but it knows its days are numbered. I’ve been holding this thing together for a few months, and it just has to last a couple more weeks.

I’ve tried lots of ways to keep it going, but last night I had an inspiration. Where else does one go late at night when faced with a dilemma? The refrigerator. So, as I pulled together my “second supper”, I remembered that in the freezer, tucked in amidst the frozen tomato sauce made from our garden tomatoes and bags of blueberries from Appleton Ridge, was a bag of frozen bananas. Just the thing. I laid the bag down under my laptop, where it could get cozy. It worked! The fan slowed down (at least for the remainder of my evening) and now I'm a day closer to Computer Replacement Day.

While I was waiting for the frozen bananas to work their magic, it occurred to me that it has been awhile since I emailed all of you whom I help - I wanted to thank you again for trusting the care of your computers and networks to me, and to tell you of some exciting changes that you might not yet be aware of.

Thank you!

So - first of all - thank you. I really appreciate that you’ve asked me to help you over the past years. I hope I can continue to provide the help and guidance you need to keep your computers running smoothly and provide tutorials and other assistance as you need them. Many of you have passed my name on to friends and associates and I’m especially grateful for that. I have really enjoyed helping all of you and look forward to continuing this for many more years.

Apple Store! Mac’s! iPods!

Second, while many of you know this already, I'd like to let all of you know that I’ve been an Apple Business Agent since the beginning of the year. This means I have an online Apple Store where I can provide you with all the products I’ve been helping you use over the years. Maybe you’re thinking about a new computer? Printers and other peripherals are now often at the same price as, for example, Staples, and there's no shipping charge for regular delivery if the order is over $50. For the budget conscious, there are often refurbished Mac’s that I've had good luck with too. And, iPods make great gifts, even for yourself. As always, let me know if you need any assistance in making your choices - I’m happy to help.

Leopard!

I know some of you have been waiting for Apple to ship Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) later this month . As you probably know, they’ve announced it will ship today (October 26th). If you’ve bought a Mac on or after October 1 you are eligible to get an upgrade for $9.99. I’m especially excited about the Time Machine backup feature, and the Screen Sharing feature which will make it easier for me to help you remotely.

Macs, Windows, Cameras!

So, if it's a Mac or a PC (or both) you need help with, let me know. And whether you need help getting email working, deciding which ISP to use, sharing files between your Mac and PC, syncing your handheld to your laptop, getting your photos from your camera to your computer and managing them once they’re there, or any other problems, please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Oh - and if your laptop’s over-heating, I think I may have a solution...

Thanks, and I hope I can help you soon,
